About the Project
Circadian biology research has repeatedly confirmed the effect of 10,000 lux of morning light exposure on cortisol rhythm, sleep quality, and mood. The Circadian app fits this science into your pocket: instantaneous lux values are calculated using the iPhone's ambient light sensor combined with location-based solar elevation angle.
The app accumulates daily light exposure to show progress toward the target and which hours offer opportunities. For jet lag, a 3-5 day pre-flight "pre-adjustment" plan presents how much light to get at what time in a calendar format. Night-time screen transitions are automated via iOS 16+'s Night Shift API.
The Lock Screen widget shows current lux and time remaining to the target in real time. AppIntents integration lets users get an answer to "when is my light window?" through Siri and Shortcuts.
