Astronomy apps split into two extremes: either too simple for kids, or too complex for academics. Celestial aims for the middle ground — scientific yet usable, built for curious adults.
ISS pass predictions (Heavens-Above API), a meteor shower calendar, observable planets, and moon phases — all combined into a single weekly view. The standout feature is AR Sky View: point your camera at the sky and constellations, planet names, and the ISS orbit appear as a real-time overlay. Core Location plus gyroscope deliver precise position and heading calculations.
The observation-planning tool answers questions like 'what's the best time to photograph the moon this week?' by combining cloud cover, moon phase, and horizon angle. Observation notes and a photo log pair with a location-based night-sky quality index (built on a light-pollution map).
