site-uptime

An uptime check for muhittincamdali.com that runs on GitHub Actions, outside the server it watches.

A scheduled workflow requests the home page and the /api/health/ endpoint of muhittincamdali.com and retries once after 30 seconds. If both attempts fail, it opens an issue labeled outage, or comments on the one already open; when both answer 200 again, it comments and closes the issue. GitHub's own notifications deliver the alert, so no secret, server or third-party service is involved. A second workflow commits a timestamp once a month, because GitHub disables scheduled workflows in public repositories after 60 days without activity.

Features

  • Checks the home page and the health endpoint; both must return HTTP 200
  • One retry after 30 seconds before a run counts as down
  • Outage state kept in a single open issue with the outage label: opened, commented while down, closed on recovery
  • Runs only with the workflow's GITHUB_TOKEN and the permissions issues: write and contents: read
  • Monthly keepalive commit through the contents API, without third-party actions

Timeline

  1. Repository opened: scheduled GitHub Actions probe of the site and its health endpoint, with an outage issue as the alert

  2. First outage detected; the issue was updated on each failed run and closed on recovery on 2026-09-30

  3. Monthly keepalive workflow added after GitHub disabled the scheduled probe for 60 days without repository activity
